TRANSITIONING: LIVING YOUR TRUE GENDER

have gotten many messages asking about how to transition, how I did it, etc.  I believe the most important thing is to have knowledge and information.  I did everything I could to educate myself about hormone therapy and feminizing surgeries and continue to do so.  I would recommend getting as much information as possible.  I also believe that most trans people should have a good therapist.  Transition can be very challenging and having a good therapist to help you navigate your way through has been amazing and crucial for me.  Trying to surround yourself with a support system is also key.  I am so blessed that I transitioned in New York City.  There are so many resources for transgender folks here.  Going to transgender support groups at the LGBT center here in New York City was crucial for me.  I met so many trans women from diverse backgrounds who helped me realize anything was possible for transwomen.   So to recap, education, mental health and support are my big three things with transition.  But transitioning is so extensive.  There are many specifics I can't possibly cover here.  One of the most amazing and thorough sites I have encountered is www.tsroadmap.com.  I highly recommend it as a resource for gender transition.  Good luck and...

Stay in the love,

Laverne
